Mauritius moves with the times

Mauritius is celebrating 50 years of independence as well as a raft of new products for the weddings, honeymoons and family markets.

2018 marks 50 years since Mauritius proclaimed independence from the UK and the destination is preparing for celebrations across the island, including ceremonies, live music and performances on the national day, March 12.

As part of wider celebrations throughout the year, visitors can explore all four corners of the island; from the bustling and vibrant city of Port Louis in the north to the Chamarel Seven Coloured Earths and Le Morne Brabant in the south.

The cultural and historical aspects of the island will come to life during these celebrations and visitors will be able to see what a melting pot of cultures Mauritius really is.

With its miles of beautiful white-sand beaches, surrounded by lush forests and dramatic volcanic peaks, Mauritius is very much among the best locations for wedding and honeymoons.

Many of the hotels on the island are continuing to introduce new concepts for this particular market and offer wedding co-ordinators and luxury packages to ensure a smooth and affordable celebration.

Honeymooners can choose to relax along the crystal waters of the coast or discover the island’s rich culture with French, Indian, African and Chinese influences, visiting the bustling markets and city centre of Port Louis.

Visitors looking for adventure can also soak up the mountainous landscape and head to the Black River Gorges National Park for some spectacular hiking and biking trails.

Mauritius has year-round sunshine, clean and safe seas and plenty to explore and with only three to four hours’ time difference and overnight flights meaning it’s the perfect destination for families. The island’s world-class choice of hotels and fabulous beaches will keep young ones entertained.

Some of the largest hotels and resorts in the Indian Ocean are found on Mauritius, with most offering fantastic facilities for families.

Many have free kids’ and teens’ clubs offer cookery courses, sports academies, island treasure hunts, beach parties and much more.
